Empower yourself, empower others

Recently we ran a giveaway on our social media pages for women to answer our 4 empowerment questions:

  1. Who empowers you?
  2. What simple things can you do to empower other women?
  3. What do you want to tell other women?
  4. What is the best piece of advice another woman has given you?

We were ASTOUNDED by the thoughtful responses we received, which encouraged us to write this blog.

When we think of empowering other women, we think about uplifting them through positive encouragement and exploration of their true self. Here are 10 ways you can empower other women:

#1 Have each other’s back

Supporting other women is one of the #1 ways you can empower them. Acknowledge a woman’s unique beauty and understand that every woman’s journey is different. We all have unique bodies, personalities, and styles, but just because they may be different from you doesn’t mean they’re that much less special. Support their endeavors and encourage them to the fullest.

#2 Let them know how truly beautiful they are

Call out how amazing their hair, nail polish, or outfit looks. Compliment their intelligence. Women are beautiful creatures and compliments go a long way.

#3 Always be honest, listen deeply, and say thank you

Some say the truth hurts, but we believe it can make someone stronger. Give honest criticism without being harsh. Truly listen to their wants, needs, and struggles. And always say thank you for their presence or helping you with a problem.

#4 Build each other up with positivity

Women should never feel doubted by other women. Positive feedback and encouragement help build up confidences vs. knocking them down. Always speak with kindness.

#5 Lend a helping hand

Whether a friend is moving, was recently broken up with, or you see a stranger in need on your way to work, stop and lend a helping hand.

#6 Understand how strong they really are

Women are warriors, but sometimes it is hard to believe if they’re going through a rough time. Reiterate their strength and multiply it times 1,000 because every woman can be her strongest when it’s needed.

#7 Simply be present

Distractions are all around us. By simply being present with the women in your life can allow you to truly listen and be there for them no matter what they’re going through. Passive listening is noticeable and can discourage the support they feel from you.

#8 Leave your assumptions to yourself

Assumptions help no one and tend to not be truthful. Talk to other women and get to know them before placing wrongful labels on them. Everyone has beauty and sometimes it takes digging deep to find it.

#9 Talk about sex

Women do not share enough about themselves with other women. Whether it is out of fear, shame, or embarrassment some women are scared to share what’s going on with their bodies and their relationships. Your girlfriends are there for just this reason, to share, be open and nonjudgmental. When it comes to sex, we can always learn more, so talking about it can be an eye opener. Release any shame around this subject and create a safe space for talking about it.

#10 Disagree without dismissing

Women don’t always agree on everything, but the feeling of being dismissed and unheard can really bring someone down. Honor their intelligence and courage for voicing their contrasting opinion by saying things like “I hear you, and that makes sense” while also highlighting your perspective.

We hope you’re able to implement these 10 things into your daily life so we can continue to support and show the world how powerful women can be! Looking for the perfect way to empower a friend in your life? Check out our themed boxes for the perfect occasion to lift them up.
